Éowyn fighting the Uruk-hai in the Glittering Caves [x]

You look upon a woman.

War is the province of men, Éowyn ; requested by anon

thevictorioushound:

Then suddenly he beheld his sister Éowyn as she lay, and he knew her. He stood a moment as a man who is pierced in the midst of a cry by an arrow through the heart; and then his face went deathly white; and a cold fury rose in him, so that all speech failed him for a while.

potions-master » Sansa Stark or Éowyn?

theongreyjoy:

I hate when people jump on Tolkien’s dick for Eowyn marrying and forgoing fighting for a peaceful life, as if that makes her character any less feminist.

“Then the heart of Éowyn changed, or else at last she understood it… …’I will be a shieldmaiden no longer, nor vie with the great Riders, nor take joy only in the songs of slaying. I will be a healer, and love all things that grow and are not barren.’”

This is a woman who nearly died and suffered tremendously at the hands of the witch king (whom she killed). who watched her friends, family, and subjects get plowed down and brutally murdered in the battlefield. Who lost everything due to war.

If anything, she made strong decision. She saw the evils of war and realized it’s something you do out of necessity rather than something that deserves to be glorified. Then she went and married a guy she chose and focused on how to help her people and community rather than how to kill. That’s some good decision making.

Say it with me kids. A women doesn’t need to fight to be strong.

Idk im seeing and hearing some dumb bullshit on my dash and in the tags, and it may be a minority of people, but it still gets at me. Eowyn was one of the first “warrior woman” to grace the pages of epic fantasy, and unlike a lot of them, she embodies a complete and whole strength. She’s an incredible fighter, but also a brillant and nurturing person with a good heart.
